Dallas- While the past year has seen significant deployment of broadband-modem solutions in the form of xDSL and cable mo-dems, Texas Instruments Inc. is tailoring its product line to meet the emerging demand for Voice-over-Internet-Protocol services.
"Within the next six to nine months, we'll be making specific product announcements concerning Voice-over-DSL and Voice-over-Cable that will be bringing together all our expertise," said Kurt Eckles, DSL marketing manager at TI's broadband-access group.
"Programmable DSPs will allow customers to change the whole dynamic model of voice, and provide them with the flexibility to implement a solution that is customizable to specific operators," he said.
VoIP services currently use multiple interfaces and protocols, and providers of equipment for customer- premise modems and central offices offer solutions based on TI's TMS320C5x and TMS320C6x DSPs that can be easily reprogrammed to meet changes.
