To gain a greater presence in the semiconductor packaging and assembly market, The Dongbu Group last week said it is working out a final deal to secure a controlling interest in Anam Semiconductor Inc.
When the two Korean companies complete the deal, Dongbu will own a 26% stake in Anam.
The chaebol already owns Dongbu Electronics Inc., a pure-play foundry.
A key part of the deal is getting support from Texas Instruments Inc., which for years has been Anam's dominant foundry customer. A pact with Anam, which has a fab located in the Buchon area of Seoul, would give Dongbu access to TI.
