Web giant Yahoo! Inc. is taking its expertise in running business- to-consumer portals into business-to-business activities in the electronics industry.
The Santa Clara, Calif., company announced last week that it is creating b2b marketplaces for the electronic-component, IT software, and IT hardware segments of the industry. Yahoo will aggregate product data and industry news and allow purchasers to conduct transactions through the new sites.
The decision to set up these marketplaces stems from the type of traffic the Yahoo portal is already carrying, according to Shannon Ledger, vice president and general manager of production.
