SALT LAKE CITY-The Sundance Catalog Co.-famously founded by actor and activist Robert Redford-has a new leading man: ceo Stephen Gordon. In taking this position, Gordon resigned from his former post as chairman of Restoration Hardware, the company he founded more than 20 years ago and took public in 1998.
"Sundance has tremendous growth potential; I think that the core management team has already done a great job with the brand but that there is still a lot of opportunity," said Gordon in an interview with DSN Retailing Today.
Though Gordon has officially severed ties, he has only positive memories of the company he founded. He simply decided to take his career in a new direction.
"William Safire recently did an editorial in The New York Times about... retiring from his column, which discussed the importance of doing and experiencing different things every 25 years or so to re-energize the brain. As corny as that sounds, this opportunity came and I think it's very exciting."
