MCKINNEY - With the new housing market in Texas maintaining its steam, California-based Simpson Strong-Tie is expanding its manufacturing capacity here with a $16 million investment that will add as many as 30 jobs.
Strong-Tie, owned by Simpson Manufacturing Co. Inc. (NYSE:SSD), is a leading U.S. manufacturer of steel connectors used in home and apartment construction. The connectors - for attaching wood to wood, concrete or masonry, from the rafters to floor joists - strengthen a structure against high winds, tornadoes and seismic activity.
The company has had a plant in McKinney for more than two decades, but now is moving forward with a large expansion. Strong-Tie bought 77 acres of raw land in a large, undeveloped area of McKinney, adjacent to the southwest quadrant of Collin County Regional Airport on F.M. 546.
The city has agreed to provide nearly $1 million to pay for most of the required sewer, water and street improvements.
