Nine months after a controversial $2.3-billion light-rail project was shelved indefinitely by the Orange County Transportation Authority (ocTA), a tailored version of the project is back on the table.
Three southern California cities that were involved in the original 56 km CenterLine proposal-so named because its alignment was planned to run through the middle of Orange County from Irvine to Fullerton-have agreed to move forward with a shorter, less expensive version of the plan. In October the Santa Ana city council voted 4 to 2 to join Irvine and Costa Mesa in supporting the study of a revised 21 km system connecting the three cities. A week later the ocTA board voted...
