New Jersey cities and towns for years shared the throw-away attitude toward their old buildings that Americans have toward their television sets or soda cans. But in many cities, local officials have been discovering the wonder of saving an old building and giving it a new use.
Companies experience a lot of joy when they move into spanking new buildings, where everything works and is the latest model. Newer buildings like the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark or the Johnson & Johnson headquarters in New Brunswick are marvels of modernity.
