Alexander Garzon was supposed to be an attorney.
But in the midst of his studies, the Argentina-born Garzon decided to travel abroad - he visited 85 countries and every continent - and his legal career was over before it began.
In 1978, he began working as a tour manager for American Express Travel in London, conducting luxury and educational group tours to worldwide destinations.
He subsequently lived in nine countries before settling in New York City, where he arranged group tours to Asian and Pacific Rim countries and Central and South America.
While in Manhattan, he noticed most visitors looked up at the city's skyscrapers and monuments. Recalling his time in London, he remembered the city's double-decker buses and the view a seat on top afforded.
He eventually left American Express, and in 1991 with just one bus established New York Double Decker Tours, the first of its kind...
