Lynn Bays Fuechsel doesn't have a boisterous voice or overbearing personality. And her unassuming demeanor, petite frame and unwavering professionalism don't necessarily align with most people's idea of a general contractor.
As the president of McLean-based general contractor Jack Bays Inc., Fuechsel concedes hers is a maledominated industry. But she doesn't consider that a license to make excuses.
To the contrary, derailed expectations often work to her advantage. "Being a female in this business is more of an asset than a detriment because people don't tend to forget me," Fuechsel says.
HARD TIMES-TESTED
Now ranked among the most successful woman-owned businesses in the area, Jack Bays had to endure bleak years in the early '90s when the bottom fell out of the local real estate market and new construction ground to a halt.
