W. Ashley Cozine, the third generation of his family to own and manage Broadway Mortuary, nearly traded it all for politics.
Eleven years ago, Cozine was a graduate student immersed in political study at England's Oxford University when his parents came for a visit During their stay, Broadway Mortuary - started by Cozine's grandfather and operated then by his father - burned to the ground.
Fire changes his life
When they learned the news, Cozine left Oxford to help his father rebuild the business at 1147 S. Broadway. For 18 months he worked at Broadway Mortuary, conducting services in a nearby church while the original location was reconstructed. He realized the career he wanted had been right in front of him all along.
