At his second trial for threatening the life of several federal judges, bombastic New Jersey -based white power Internet radio host Hal Turner testified that he had been a long-time informant for the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Turner claimed that the FBI directed him to "ratchet up his rhetoric" to increase his influence and credibility with his racist audience. According to Turner's testimony, as they sat together at a New Jersey diner, his F.B.I, agent handlers told Turner that they wanted his help identifying a killer, whom they believed to be a member of a white supremacist organization. Turner had a devoted following among such boneheads, Klansmen, nazis and anti-immigrant racists because of the inflammatory racial views he espoused on his program. The F.B.I, made a suggestion: "Ratchet up the rhetoric," according to Turner, who immediately obliged.
