In animation, anything imaginable is possible, and, often, permissible. No one in the audience of a Disney flick bats an eye when asked to accept the plausibility of talking fishes or flying carpets. And yet, ethnic diversity has yet to gain any widespread acceptance in the medium. From Betty Boop to The Little Mermaid, mainstream animation (like other forms of entertainment) has traditionally tended to be snow white. Animator Bruce Smith, one of the most respected animator/directors in the business, is trying to change that.
