COMBAT CONTROVERSY DESTROYED HER CAREER SAYS LINDA BRAY
On April 16, Captain Linda Bray accepted a medical discharge and left the Army. Bray was catapulted into instant celebrity when she ordered her company into battle against a Panamanian dog kennel in the opening hours of the December 1989 Operation Just Cause.
Now 31, Bray told Scripps Howard reporter Peter Copeland, "What happened in Panama changed my life in almost every way. There ere a lot of people who said, 'Hey, your career is made for you.' It was totally the opposite." Bray blames the military, politicians, and the media -- not necessarily in that order for thrusting her to he center of a political controversy over women in combat.
Bray had troops under fire in three different locations on the night of the invasion and she was proud of them. The story she wanted to tell...
