Kaleida Health has asked the state for permission to establish a 20-bed unit for older adults with behavioral disorders.
If approved, the neuro -behavioral unit will be located at DeGraff Memorial Hospital in North Tonawanda.
The unit generally would accommodate people 55 and older with behavior problems, brought on in some cases by stroke or head injury. It would be staffed by a clinical psychologist and have a staff-to-patient ratio of about 3-to-1. Patient stays likely would be three months at most...
