Football fans know they haven't seen the last of Doug Flutie and the same can be said for the cereal that bears his name.
PLB Sports of Pittsburgh is planning to re-introduce "Flutie Flakes" to a whole new marketplace - SoCal, short, of course, for Southern California, where Flutie will resurrect his playing career with the San Diego Chargers.
"As much as I'm going to miss Doug in Buffalo with the Bills, we're pretty excited about San Diego," said TY Ballou, president of PLB Sports. "There is renewed excitement with the fans out there, though I know he has an immense amount of fans in Buffalo."
Flutie has shown to have fans almost everywhere in the U.S. and Canada and they swallowed up cereal and other products marketed by PLB sports since 1998. Ballou estimates sales generated through Flutie top $2.1 million, or 32 percent of all sales from the company's line of sports-related food products. Other products feature athletes such as pitchers Pedro Martinez and Tom Glavine, quarterback Kurt Warner and hockey star Jaromir Jagr. Reviving the cereal with Flutie in a Chargers uniform, then, seemed natural.
