TOM WEIGHS ANCHOR: Word has it that Tom Ford is entertaining some of the media elite today with a series of one-on-one meetings in an Upper East Side town house with top editors from Vogue, W, Harper's Bazaar and Elle, among other titles. Ford is staging the all-day event as an intimate way to pull back the curtain for each editor and reveal with a flourish his new women's fragrance, Black Orchid. The scent will be launched in the fall under the Tom Ford Beauty banner and is thought to be just the first step in a multiseason campaign to build a complete beauty house. Black Orchid is being described by executives as the anchor of what will become the Ford flotilla of fragrance and cosmetics initiatives.
TRANS EUROPE EXPRESS: It looks like Kenzo is zeroing in on a new chief executive officer. Word has it Alberto Lavia, the former ceo at upscale lingerie and apparel maker Gruppo La Perla, may be headed to the Paris-based fashion house, part of the LVMH Mot Hennessy Louis Vuitton luxury empire. Reached last week, Lavia confirmed to WWD that he quit La Perla in June, but declined further comment. Before joining La Perla, Lavia held several titles in Europe for Polo Ralph Lauren.
