THE TAILHOOK SCANDAL
Minerva's Bulletin Board first reported on the sexual assaults committed by Naval officers at the 1991 Tailhook Convention in the Winter 1992 issue. Coming at a time after the Anita Hill/Clarence Thomas hearings, when the nation had become sensitized to sexual harassment, it triggered a wave of reactions and also alerted the media to similar stories that in other times might have been ignored.
Everyone seems to agree that sexual harassment, sexual assault, and rape are indefensible, but there have been two opposite conclusions drawn from the facts by different observers and commentators. The predominant view, and certainly the official view of all the services, is that evidence...
