BREA, Calif. -- Plus-size teens have a place to go for racy fashions, now that Torrid, Hot Topic's new large-size venture, is here.
Torrid opened its first door -- a 2,500-square foot store -- at the Brea Mall here late last month.
With one look at the store's name, which is spelled out in flames, one quickly gathers that this could well be the edgiest plus-size venue in the market. Inside, black walls, heavy gothic furniture, and Moroccan tile and fixtures further convey the store's anti-establishment theme to customers -- albeit a more feminine message than Hot Topic's, according to company officials.
Like Hot Topic, the store is music-influenced with plenty of rock-a-billy and punk pieces and renaissance-inspired dresses -- think Stevie Nicks. But the store carries more mainstream dressy clubwear, too.
