For researchers at UNC Charlotte, the technology boom is not over.
In the past year, UNC Charlotte researchers have started six new businesses, filed for more than 20 patents and created 36 new inventions - an 80% increase over last year.
University and business leaders trace the leap in activity to Mark Wdowik, who leads the school's office of technology transfer. Wdowik works with professors and students to bring research out of the library or laboratory and into the marketplace. Since joining UNC Charlotte in May 2000, Wdowik has shepherded ideas into business plans and helped leaders search for funding.
