Catherine Bessant was named Bank of America Corp.'s president of its North Carolina operations in December, just on the heels of being named chief marketing officer.
The appointments followed success as head of the bank's Florida operation, where she helped halt a three-year decline in market share.
Last year found Catherine Bessant taking a couple of big steps up the corporate ladder.
Not just any ladder.
She started 2001 as president of Bank of America Corp.'s Florida operations, based in Tampa. In November, she was named the bank's chief marketing officer. The next month, she gained another title - president of BofA's North Carolina bank.
"I was so surprised," says Bessant of being named to the marketing slot in Charlotte. "I thought, 'Oh my gosh, how am I going to tell my family we're going to move?' But I was excited to become a direct member of...
