Abstract

A computer can be useful to an industrial engineer involved in work sampling activities in the determination of sample sizes. The specific sample size will be based on what degree of confidence the industrial engineer desires. For example, to be 100% correct, a continuous observation would be required. However, if a close estimate, such as a 95% confidence level is desired, a sample size based on statistical sampling techniques could be developed. A computer program, based on statistical theory, has been developed to accomplish this. A case study is presented to illustrate the application of this program.
