Rexton, N.B. -- Vic Chaisson is tired of what he sees as the modern realities of the trucking industry.
The company driver for Rexton N.B.'s Warren Transport has been on the road for almost 30 years with a career that began while puffing gravel with his cousin. Later he spent some time driving in Ontario, working his way up to the highway before returning home to New Brunswick.
Truckers used to make a good wage -- even when bumped from loads given to more experienced drivers, Chaisson says. But nowadays he's working for less than minimum wage. Atlantic Canada rates are among the worst, he adds. He's paid 27 cents a mile and openly wonders what...
