SAN FRANCISCO - IBM Corp. at LinuxWorld announced that it is contributing the source code to the Java-based Cloudscape database, which it acquired in 2001 when it purchased Informix Software, to the Apache Software Foundation.
Cloudscape is a relational database of less than 2MB that can be embedded into Java applications. IBM said its source code is more than 500,000 lines of relational database code, and claimed it is worth more than US$85 million.
