Abstract

After World War II, the most important corporation in Kosovo was the Trepca minig-metallurgical-chemical complex in Kosovska Mitrovica, which employed 21,000 workers. However, the population of Kosovo did not benefit relative to the other Yugoslav federal units. The difference in per-capita income was largest between Slovenia and Kosovo, two regions with roughly the same populations (around 2 million). In 1989, Slovenia and Kosovo had national incomes of 36.55 and 3.97 million dinars, respectively.
