Abstract

The use of lignite for industrial purposes in Kosovo began in 1922, with extraction conducted in underground corridors. The wider use of lignite started with the use of resources in Mirash (1958) and Bardh (1969), with extraction using modern excavators and transporters. Until the end of 1998, about 226 million t of lignite had been used, or 1.58% of geological reserves or 1.96% of exploitable reserves.
