Abstract
This article aims to demonstrate the impacts of the stimulus to the recycling of urban solid waste produced in the Municipality of Cacequi. Using studies on the subject and information from the municipality itself, idealized recycling scenarios were designed in a computer simulation system in order to evaluate the results in an effort to facilitate decision making by the Municipal Executive Board. The following scenarios were designed 1) without recycling; 2) 13% of recycling; 3) 30% of recycling; and 4) 40% of recycling. The simulations were performed based on the main solid waste collected by waste pickers, plastics, paper, ferrous materials and aluminum. The fundamental objective is carried out to verify the results simulated in the scenarios, referring to three factors that involve the theme addressed, the total monthly cost of waste collection, the urban solid waste generated and the gross potential gain with recycling, factors that have a strong socio-environmental impact , due to the reduction of waste disposal and social inclusion through the generation of employment and income.
