The nursing shortage might mean a longer response time when calling a nurse to your hospital room. But for health care staffing company PPR Travel, a division of Prorfessional Placement Resources, it has meant significant corporate growth and remarkable success. A good indication of what PPR has ac 'eved is its debut this year at No. 70 on Inc. magazine's list of the top 500 fastest-growing private companies.
"This is a prestigious list and we were honored and privileged to be a part of it," said CEO Keith Frein.
Frein, 33, and Dwight Cooper, 36, founded PPR in 1996 as a permanent placement firm specializing in physical therapists; occupational therapists and speech language pathologists. The college buddies saw an opportunity to become a successful small business by filling the shortage in those professions that existed at the time. When the shortage ended in 1998, they turned to the challenging and lucrative field of placing working nurses and recruiting nurses from overseas.
