Aetna U.S. Healthcare no longer will cover soleproprietor businesses.
Florida's second largest HMO and the nation's largest health insurance company sent a memo this week telling agents to stop offering this coverage immediately.
The move comes on the heels of an Aug. 11 First District Court of Appeals decision to temporarily ban an emergency order issued by Insurance Commissioner Bill Nelson.
The order required insurers and the managed care industry to provide health insurance coverage to the smallest of the state's small employers for the next year.
Aetna's decision impacts enrollment in its HMO and traditional insurance plans offered through Aetna Life Insurance.
Aetna - which also owns Prudential Healthcare - had nearly 140,000 HMO members in Jacksonville as of March 3 1, according to the latest avail able figures from the department of insurance. Statewide, it...
