"There is a bit of Basil in all of us", says John Cleese, talking about the appeal of his comic monster in 'Fawlty Towers', now being repeated on BBC-1 (7.30 pm Sunday evenings until early August).
The series' roots lie in the many training programmes John Cleese wrote and continues to write for Video Arts -- the training company he co-founded during the seventies -- now regularly used by over 100,000 organisations and the world leader in its field. Basil's behaviour exemplifies bad customer care -- episodes of 'Fawlty Towers' are used to train hotel and catering executives in how not to behave. The show's success, like that of Video Arts, lies in the truthfulness of the writing...
