Abstract

Based on the author's direct experience, the article portrays the press during the communist regime in Romania, highlighting features such as censorship, centralization, planning and propaganda of the single party. Equally, the article offers an image of the communist society, with its shortcomings and constraints, indirectly emphasizing the importance of a free and independent press for the functioning of the society, the relationship between the state and the citizen and a functional democracy.
