Chloride Electro Networks' sprawling building contains only 200 workers these days, fewer than it has for many of its 43 years.
In fact, the Caledonia company's work force has been cut nearly in half over the last two years.
Changes in military procurements account for part of the job loss; the rest stems from slumping business among other major customers.
But a new general manager has a long-term plan to revive Chloride, a division of Chloride Power Electronics Inc., a subsidiary of London's Chloride Group PLC.
"Business in general at the moment is very soft," Keith Yeates said. "Like everyone else, we've been through some difficult times and had some cutbacks in our work force."
