Q: This week the city of Rochester announced the expanded 2008 Rochester Omnium. What do you - as director and promoter of the event - see as the biggest change that will come from this?
A: There will be two equally dramatic changes as a result of the race growing from the one-day Criterium into the three-day Omnium: Even more elite, world-class professional racers will come to compete and a higher number of spectators will not want to miss a minute of the action. An attendance of 85,000 over three days is expected. Both of these will result in a much larger positive economic impact on Greater Rochester. Since the first year of the Criterium we've attracted a quality field but it gets better every year as the word has spread. The competitors absolutely love the energetic Rochester spectators, the exceptional way they are treated by event management and the uniqueness and difficulty of the race course. The racers have loudly expressed their enthusiasm for their stay in Rochester and have encouraged me to find a way to make it a longer multiday event.
