No one would blame Carl Coleman if he ever hung a "gone fishing" sign in his store window. After all, angling is the man's business.
Coleman, 63, is owner of Carl D. Coleman Fly Fishing, on West Ridge Road in Spencerport. Started in 1964 and originally run out of the basement of his house, the business has been at its current location since 1973.
In addition to fly fishing rods, reels and accessories, the shop offers fly tying classes, casting clinics and books, as well as guiding services for one-to three-day fishing excursions. Also available is a line of Pendelton wool blankets and men's shirts.
The store used to offer Pendelton women's clothing as well, a side of the business that Coleman's wife and partner, Evelyn, ran until recently. Now she does the company's books and helps out behind the cash register.
