Petra Systems Inc., a 4-year-old software development company that makes and markets an electronic medical records system for doctors, hospital staffs and other medical concerns, has chosen Louisville as the place to establish its corporate headquarters.
Company president and founder Jeff Evoy told Business First in May that he also was considering Portland, Ore., and Sacramento, Calif., for the headquarters.
The firm has initial plans to lease 2,000 square feet in MedCenter One, the former Paul Schultz Advertising buildings, located at the northeast corner of East Broadway and Jackson Street, which have been transformed into the Louisville Medical Center's newest office and research complex.
The company moved its field office here from Seattle more than three years ago. It is located in the Carlisle Building on East Main Street. Evoy said that office and a four-person staff will relocate by the end of the month to MedCenter One, which is owned by the city of Louisville.
But Petra is expected to quickly outgrow that space.
Evoy, who works at the Louisville field office and is a former Microsoft Corp. employee, said the company plans to fill 110 positions at an average annual salary of more than $57,000, beginning next year.
There will be a variety of positions available, including trainers, computer programmers, software developers, sales and marketing representatives, and management and support staff.
Physicians, large HMOs are Petra customers
Petra's medical records software package can be delivered entirely over the Internet to any customer with a Web browser, Evoy said.
The program gives users - which range from individual physicians and hospital staffs to large health maintenance organizations - the ability to access and document patient medical-care reports electronically. In addition, the company serves as an application service provider, housing all medical information confidentially.
