Mahr acquires federal

The world of metrology continues to consolidate. Mahr Corp. finishes out 1999 with the acquisition of Federal Products Co. (Providence, RI). The acquisition, for an undisclosed sum, was completed Friday, Oct. 29,1999. It brings together Carl Mahr Holding GmbH (Goettingen, Germany) -and Federal, a subsidiary of Esterline Technologies, as Mahr Federal Inc., with combined annual sales of more than $165 million and more than 1,500 employees worldwide.

Federal Products Co. produces a wide range of products, from handheld gages to advanced form and surface finish measurement machines. The acquisition of Federal is expected to strengthen Mahr's position in North and South America, England, and in other English-speaking markets where Federal has traditionally strong sales.

Mahr Federal Inc. will be headquartered in Providence, RI, and a complete integration of the two companies is expected by the end of the year. Mahr's current U.S. facility, in Cincinnati, is expected to remain as an active sales, support, demonstration, and development center.

Earlier this year, Mahr acquired WEGU Messtechnik GmbH in Wadgassen, Germany.
