After nearly a decade of research and development, Honolulu-based software company Atlantis Cyberspace Inc. demonstrated its three-dimensional gaming products at a trade show in Orlando, Fla., last week, racking up an estimated $2 million to $3 million in orders.
Response to the company's virtual reality gaming software - Atlantis OS and virtual reality game - "The Abyss" - was overwhelming, says company President Laurent Scallie.
"We have enough orders to max out our current production facility," Scallie says. "I think we are going to be announcing that we have sold out our 2002 production capacity before the end of 2001."
Formed by Scallie in 1992, the company and its 10 employees are based at Honolulu Community College. Earlier this year Atlantis sold a prototype of its 'Abyss" game to South Korea's Coex Mall for $350,000, Scallie says.
The International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions trade show, however, marked the company's official debut.
