Ophthalmologist Tyrie Jenkins is carrying on a family legacy of women in medicine.
She is the fifth generation in a line of mothers, grandmothers and greatgrandmothers who have used their nurturing touch as nurse, midwife or missionary doctor.
This month, Jenkins marked the 10th anniversary of her private practice. She says she is dedicated to providing patients a warm environment with cozy couches and cooking shows to watch on TV She couples it with the most modern technology for surgeries and routine checkups.
"The people I talked to said they would leave Hawaii to get good care:' said Jenkins, 48.
