Abstract
¿Qué es ser u̧wo̧tju̧ja̧ hoy? ¿cuáles son los elementos que se tejen para construir la identidad? A través de un breve recorrido por el proceso histórico del pueblo u̧wo̧tju̧ja̧ (piaroa) de Selva de Matavén y el afianzamiento del ukuo como eje articulador de la identidad, este artículo tiene como objetivo presentar algunos de los elementos que tejen y dan sentido a una forma particular de entender y habitar el territorio y constituyen la urdimbre de la identidad. Entre estos elementos se destacan la articulación con Venezuela, una continua relación con la economía de mercado, la fundación de la comunidad de Sarrapia, el proceso de educación propia y el papel que han jugado las luchas por el territorio y la autonomía, en especial las reivindicaciones ganadas por los movimientos indígenas, proceso que se consolidó con la Constitución Política de 1991 y la ratificación del Convenio 169 de la OIT sobre Pueblos indígenas y Tribales.
What is U̧wo̧tju̧ja̧ today? What are the elements that are woven to build identity? Through a brief tour through the historical process of the village U̧wo̧tju̧ja̧ (piaroa) of Selva de Matavén and the consolidation of the ukuo as articulating axis of identity, this article aims to present some of the elements that weave and give meaning to a particular form to understand and inhabit the territory and constitute the warp of identity. These elements include the articulation with Venezuela, a continuous relationship with the market economy, the foundation of the Sarrapia community, the process of own education and the role played by the struggles for territory and autonomy, especially the claims won by indigenous movements, a process that was consolidated with the 1991 Political Constitution and the ratification of ILO Convention 169 on Indigenous and Tribal Peoples.
O que é ser u̧wo̧tju̧ja̧ hoje? Quais são os elementos que se tecem para construir identidade entre o povo u̧wo̧tju̧ja̧ (piaroa)? Através de uma breve revisão do processo histórico do povo u̧wo̧tju̧ja̧ (Piaroa) da floresta de Mataven, e levando en consideração o proceso de fortalecimento do ukuo como eixo fundamental da identidade, este artigo pretende apresentar alguns dos elementos que tecem e dão sentido a uma forma particular de compreender e habitar o territorio, e de constituir identidade.
