H 0 N G K 0 N G Hong Kong has long been renowned for its business-savvy can-do adaptability. And with local actioner "Gen-Y Cops," the city's movie industry is showing just how flexible it can be.
After opening at No. 1 at the Hong Kong box office in December, "Gen-Y," the sequel to 1999's "Gen-X Cops," is angling for an assault on American screens. And the producers aren't afraid to pull the pic apart to put a deal together.
"We are completely recutting the movie," says Paul Colichman, partner in Regent Entertainment, L.A.-based co-producer of "Gen-Y." "And we're completely changing the source music and replacing it with driving American-style rock."
