The fate of an innovative research program for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people is under threat when funding ends in December.
The course piloted by the Aboriginal Health Council of South Australia (AHCSA) for the past 12 months is the only appropriate research course available that meets Aboriginal health sector needs, Australian evidence shows (Malin, Franks, Casey and Champion 2008; Bailey, Preston, Crossland and Veitch 2006:2).
The Certificate IV in Indigenous Research Capacity Building provides practical, community based research skills for Aboriginal health and community services workers. The course was developed at James Cook University and nationally accredited in February 2006, and the AHCSA is the only organisation currently offering the course in Australia.
