After achieving the dream of owning a business, the next wish for many entrepreneurs is owning the place where they do business.
Jacklyn Jordan, head of Capital Access Group, has helped make that happen for hundreds of Bay Area business owners.
Since 1981, she has obtained lowinterest loans from the Small Business Administration so business owners could buy their buildings. While the program has grown steadily, historically low interest rates have made a good idea even better.
Jordan cut her teeth on the small business lending program when she worked for the City of San Francisco, first under Mayor George Moscone and then Mayor Dianne Feinstein. But it was not a good fit and she left after four years to start her own company.
"You can either be effective doing what you're doing, or be partially effective and spend your time lobbying," she said. "Efficiency is very important to me and I'm not a political person."
