The new Handbook of Hydrology (1993), edited by David R. Maidment, is the successor to the Handbook of Applied Hydrology, edited by Ven Te Chow in 1966. Intended as a broad review and reference on hydrology, the Handbook covers primarily water on the continents, and is strongly oriented toward applications rather than basic science. The new Handbook is not simply a new edition, but has been completely rewritten. It has also been rethought, resulting in considerable changes in emphasis.
