1995 Latina Excellence Awards.
The 1995 Latina Excellence Awards, an annual event sponsored by HISPANIC Magazine, provide the opportunity to take a look at how Latinas are shaping America. Through their vision and determination, these women inspire others and forge a path for young Latinas to experience a broader scope of opportunities available in diverse fields. The fourth annual event was held at the St. Regis Hotel in New York City on August 11, 1995.
1995 LATINA EXCELLENCE AWARD RECIPIENTS
Eva de La O Arts Award Sponsored by Anheuser-Busch
Eva de La O is a versatile artist who has won praise for her performances in opera, oratorio, and concerts. The soprano is founder and director of the Musica de Camara chamber music concert series, which was initiated in 1979 and has presented Puerto Rican classical musicians in concert in New York City to critical acclaim. Ms. de La O is a Julliard graduate who has studied with Alberta Masiello of the Metropolitan Opera and is a disciple of Maestro Arthur Lief. Winner of the 1992 Vocal Award given by the Pope Foundation in New York, Eva de La O is under management with the Hollaender International Artists Management of Vienna and Rome and has recently recorded a CD of opera arias for MGM Records in Europe.
Sister Servants of Mary Community Service Award Sponsored by Goya Foods
The Sister Servants of Mary was established in Madrid in 1851 by Sister Santa Maria Soledad Torres Acosta. The Sister Servants of Mary have been caring for the terminally ill and the elderly ever since. They care for a great number of AIDS patients who have gone through their savings and have nowhere else to turn. The order has approximately two hundred sisters in the United States.
