Building Wealth: Tina Córdova Goes From Single Mother to Construction CEO
When Tina Córdova founded Queston Construction in Albuquerque, she never dreamed it would grow from $50,000 in sales and two full-time employees to $2.5 million in sales and 26 employees in just eight years.
Born and raised in Tularosa, New Mexico, Córdova lived a small-town life. In her village in the southern part of the state, neighbors knew each other well. Her father Tony Córdova managed a grocery store and mother Rosalie Córdova remained at home to raise four children. In later years, her mother entered the property appraisal business.
In 1977, Córdova (not related to the writer) graduated as valedictorian of her high-school class and attended New Mexico Highlands University. She was the first in her family to complete college, earning a bachelor's degree in biology in 1981 and following with a master's degree in 1983. She continued on to the University of New Mexico Medical School from 1983 to 1986.
"I really wanted to be a doctor," Córdova says. "However, I found myself as a single mother with a child to support."
