Yet another ethanol plant has reached an agreement with both EPA and the Department of Justice over alleged excess emissions as part of an ongoing battle with many in the industry.
Ace Ethanol LLC's 15-million gal/yr plant in Stanley, Wis., allegedly violated federal and state clean air regulations, according to an EPA Region 5 statement. "This settlement will result in cleaner air for people who live in the Stanley area," according to EPA Region 5 Administrator Thomas Skinner. "Ace will install a thermal oxidizer to cut air pollution from its plant and also pay a fine of approximately $300,000 to the state of Wisconsin," he added.
The agreement resolves federal and state complaints alleging that Ace began building the plant without getting appropriate permits and installing necessary air pollution control equipment, EPA said in its statement, adding the complaints allege "significant amounts of volatile organic compounds...
