Abstract

Para fomentar una cultura de arquitectura sostenible es indispensable considerar el entorno y características ambientales. Uno de los problemas principales en Puerto Rico es el tema de desprendimiento de terreno tanto en la zona urbana como en la zona rural. Es por eso, que esta investigación explora el tema desde una mirada más amplia hasta una más detallada. Se realizó una búsqueda sobre arquitectura vernácula, arquitectura sostenible, los suelos de Puerto Rico, precedentes de edificaciones en terreno en pendiente y, por último, pueblos en Puerto Rico donde se construye con el terreno en pendiente y como las edificaciones responden a ellas. Se establecieron variables que ayudan a crear un diseño que beneficie los habitantes pero que también se integre con el medio ambiente. Se demuestra que mediante la utilización de un sistema de pilotes se “armoniza” la relación de la estructura con el terreno, creando un vínculo con la naturaleza de una manera más ecológica. Finalmente, esto nos lleva a considerar el hacer un conjunto de ideas coherentes en el cual estas puedan servir como método de construcción para futuros proyectos en Puerto Rico.

To promote a culture of sustainable architecture, it is essential to consider the environment and environmental characteristics. One of the main problems in Puerto Rico is the issue of landslides in both urban and rural areas. That is why this research explores the topic from a broader perspective to a more detailed one. A search was carried out on vernacular architecture, sustainable architecture, the soils of Puerto Rico, precedents of buildings on sloping land and, finally, towns in Puerto Rico where construction is done with sloping land and how the buildings respond to them. Variables were established that help create a design that benefits the inhabitants but also integrates with the environment. It is shown that by using a system of piles the relationship of the structure with the terrain is “harmonized”, creating a link with nature in a more ecological way. Finally, this leads us to consider making a set of coherent ideas in which these can serve as a construction method for future projects in Puerto Rico.
