On July 6, the Stewartville (Minn.) High School boys basketball team Twitter account, which boasts around 800 followers, posted a photo of Tschetter (pronounced cheddar) in a University of Michigan jersey saying, Will Tschetter is excited to announce his commitment to the University of Michigan! GO BLUE!
The announcement came via this avenue, because Tschetter doesn't have any accounts of his own.
With social media, there's so many distractions from social life, obviously basketball life, Tschetter told The Blade in a phone interview.
You can get caught up with that more than working on your game or doing schoolwork or spending time with your friends and family. So, I think that's kind of a main reason why I haven't participated in that, to kind of block out the white noise.
According to Stewartville coach Adam Girtman, Tschetter has an old soul in this regard. But he is still a teenager and will still occasionally scroll Twitter using his mom's account.
He knows most recruits eventually post an announcement on social media and still wanted to have that experience.
That led him to his assistant coach, Brad Vaught, who runs the team's account.
