December 2020 legislative elections
Opposition coalition reaffirms participation in legislative elections
The Democratic Alliance, a coalition formed by the opposition parties Democratic Action (AD), Social Christian Party (Copei), Cambiemos (Let Us Change), and Progressive Vanguard, has reaffirmed its willingness to participate in the upcoming elections for the National Assembly (AN) slated for 6 December, Venezolana de Television (VTV) Online reported on 30 September. "With great honour I say that the majority of the political parties in Venezuela are participating in this electoral process. The National Electoral Council (CNE) has guaranteed a transparent and fair election, where the Democratic Alliance has registered 100 per cent of its candidates in the 87 electoral precincts of the country, and we will play a democratic role to win the majority of the positions in the National Assembly (AN)," Bernabe Gutierrez of the AD party told a news conference in Caracas. He also referred to the sanctions imposed on Venezuela by the US Government and stressed that they exacerbate the national crisis much more and affect the dignity of all Venezuelans, while recalling that he himself was a victim of these measures. At the same time, Gutierrez expressed confidence that the opposition would perform well in the 6 December election just as it did in the previous one held in 2015.
