Vengaboys The Platinum Album (Positiva) (Appalling)
A Village People for the S Club 7 generation, the mysteriously hit- making Vengaboys wear sailor hats and burble about saucy sex to syncopated beats. But the real Village People were far wittier than these Dutch-based automatons, whose biggest asset is a lack of embarrassment at the Eurodisco nursery rhymes they're forced to sing. Uncle John from Jamaica, which throws a shrill Caribbean accent into the cheese fondue, is the very nadir, and no, it's not amusingly camp. Three of the 10 tracks are instrumentals a rip-off or a blessing, according to taste. (CS)
