Abstract

A 26-year-old woman presented to our hospital with a 6-month history of dry, itchy eyes, and poor vision at night. She also reported dry, itchy skin, and brittle nails. On examination, we found no evidence of malabsorption, chronic liver disease, cholestasis, or pancreatic disease; a physical examination was unremarkable apart from abnormalities in her eyes. Microscopic examination of a sample of the patient's stool was negative for ova, parasites, and cysts for Ascaris lumbricoides (roundworm), Giardia duodenalis (giardiasis), Trichuris trichiura (whipworm), Entamoeba histolytica (amoebiasis), and Ancylostoma duodenale (hookworm).
